I have recently discovered the joy of homemade plant-based milk, which sounds like I have too much time on my hand, but I really don't and therefore even this is recipe is quite quick. I have done almond milk before and will share the recipe soon, but if you are on a budget or don’t have time to let the almonds soak overnight, oat milk is a great alternative!
With almond milk you need a straining bag to separate the pulp from the milk, but if it's easier a fine sieve will suffice. I will link a good straining bag from Amazon at the end of the article for you.
You can really substitute this for almond milk in any recipe, from porridge to smoothies.
Makes about 800ml oat milk
1 cup oats
600ml fresh water
Leave the oats to soak for half an hour in cold water and drain with a sieve.
Add the soaked oats and 600ml fresh water to your blender and blend for about 30seconds (depening on its strength). Then either use a fine sieve or the straining bag to separate the pulp from the pure oat milk! Et voilà! If kept in the fridge in an airtight bottle it can hold up to 5 days.
